On February 24, LG Display announced that the company has officially begun mass production of the industry’s first 40-inch Pillar to Pillar automotive display.
It is reported that Pillar-to-Pillar is an ultra-large car display that can completely cover the area in front of the driver and front passenger seats.
In order to improve driving convenience, SDV is controlled through software and needs to be equipped with a large display screen that can easily view various information and control vehicle functions. Therefore, ultra-large P2P solutions have attracted much attention as a new generation of mobile displays.
LG Display is strengthening its strategic layout in the SDV field through mass production of 40-inch P2P automotive displays. The product provides a personalized infotainment experience for drivers and passengers, allowing advanced infotainment features to be displayed simultaneously, from digital instrument clusters and navigation to climate control, movies, music and even games, all without the need to switch screens, increasing user convenience.
To help the driver focus on the road, the display also features switchable privacy mode viewing angle control technology. This technology allows front-seat passengers to watch movies or play games on the display in front of them, while the driver cannot see the content. LG Display stated that the company is the first company in the industry to commercialize SPM.
The display is also the first to apply local dimming technology, which reduces heat generation and power consumption and further improves driving efficiency. Additionally, to minimize the number of physical buttons in the vehicle, various functions can be controlled via a large touchscreen.
LG Display’s 40-inch P2P display will be the first to be installed on AFEELA, the first sedan of Japanese joint venture Sony Honda Mobility. Through this large display, it is expected to maximize AI-based driving assistance systems and various entertainment functions.
