Apple may adjust OLED product roadmap

According to news on March 12, source @Jukanlosreve tweeted on the X platform on March 10, citing the latest research report from South Korean financial company MeritzSecurities, saying that because the sales of OLED iPad Pro did not meet expectations, Apple adjusted its OLED roadmap, postponed the release of some products, and planned to postpone the full adoption of OLED technology until 2028.

Apple will launch an OLED panel for the iPad Pro for the first time in 2024, incorporating a number of new technologies such as tandem display and hybrid OLED structure. Compared with the existing Mini LED panel, the new OLED panel is 15% lighter and 22% thinner, but its high price has not made it a hit. In early 2024, Samsung and LG planned to produce 9 million OLED panels for Apple's 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but the final shipment volume was about 5.7 million.

It is reported that Apple is pessimistic about the demand for iPad Pro and has reduced panel purchases since January this year. IT Home cited a blog post and attached the adjusted OLED product roadmap as follows:

iPad series:

OLED iPad mini is scheduled to be released in 2026, and OLED iPad Air is advanced from 2028 to 2027.

OLED iPad Pro upgrade delayed from 2027 to 2028, and for the first time Using COE technology.

The folding iPad is expected to be released after 2028, using tandem display and COE technology.

MacBook Series:

OLED MacBook Pro is scheduled to be released at the end of 2026, using Samsung Display’s IT8 generation OLED production line, equipped with hybrid structure and tandem display technology.

The OLED MacBook Air has been delayed from 2027 to 2028, using a single-layer structure to reduce costs.
