AR microdisplay manufacturer Cellid completes US$13 million in financing

On February 7, Japanese AR glasses optical manufacturer Cellid announced that the company had completed a total of US$13 million in financing through a private placement.

This round of financing was led by the Development Bank of Japan, with third-party placement through funds managed or participated in the management of More Management Co., Ltd., CVC funds jointly established by Kyocera Corporation and Global Brain Corporation, 15th Rock, Inc., FFG Venture Business Partners Co., Ltd. and other institutions.

After the completion of this round of financing, Cellid’s cumulative financing has reached approximately US$33 million.

Cellid's core business is the development of AR glasses displays and spatial recognition engines. The company claims to be the first in the world to develop the largest, widest viewing angle, and lightest waveguide display technology, and has successfully developed the world's first full-color projection technology using plastic materials.

In 2021, Cellid announced the supply of AR glasses display module sample "Cellid Waveguide 60". The module includes a wider viewing angle optical waveguide and an ultra-compact single green Micro LED projector of 1.2 cubic centimeters.

In January 2023, Cellid released an optical module for AR glasses, which is also equipped with a Micro LED projector and has a field of view of up to 60 degrees.

In November 2024, Cellid released the AR glasses reference design, which is an AR glasses using optical see-through waveguide display. By using the company's self-developed waveguide technology, Cellid has successfully created AR glasses that look like ordinary glasses and weigh only about 58 grams. Compared with traditional head-mounted display devices, the glasses significantly reduce eye fatigue caused by long-term wear.

Regarding the completion of this latest financing, Cellid said that the financing will help the company strengthen the AR glasses core component product line, reference design and related business development. this In addition, Cellid will also strengthen its mass production system and accelerate the marketization process of its products.
