Total investment of 1 billion yuan, 50,000 KK MicroLED MiP project started

Recently, Hangzhou Xinju Semiconductor Co., Ltd.’s 50,000 KK Micro LED MiP R&D and production project was officially launched in Heda Xin Valley. The project has a total investment of 1 billion yuan and is expected to have an annual output value of nearly 1 billion yuan after reaching full production. It will form technological complementarities with upstream and downstream enterprises in the local industry chain such as Silan Microelectronics and Medica Optoelectronics.

The founder of Xinju Semiconductor said that in the future, the company will use its Hangzhou base as a fulcrum to accelerate the popularization and application of Micro LED products in commercial displays, large-size TVs, vehicle displays and other fields.

Information shows that Xinju Semiconductor was established on January 18, 2024. Its business scope includes general projects: semiconductor lighting device manufacturing; semiconductor device special equipment sales; semiconductor lighting device sales; optoelectronic device manufacturing; optoelectronic device sales; display device manufacturing; display device sales; integrated circuit chip and product manufacturing, etc.

New developments in MiP technology continue

In recent years, MiP packaging technology has gradually emerged in the LED display industry and has become an important force promoting industry change. According to TrendForce forecasts, the display LED packaging market size will be approximately US$1.3 billion in 2024. MiP technology will show rapid development in 2025 and is expected to promote the growth of display LED packaging output value.

In addition to Core Semiconductor, Leyard, BOE Huacan, Nationstar Optoelectronics, Kinglight Crystal and other companies also regard MiP technology as one of the important directions for future LED packaging and are actively carrying out technology layout.

In terms of production capacity construction, Leyard announced in November last year that its self-developed high-end MiP production line was officially put into production, with a yield rate of high-end MiP products exceeding 95%. The first phase production capacity of this production line can reach 1200KK/month, and the production capacity of the second phase production line will be expanded to 2400KK/month in the future, further promoting the cost reduction and efficiency increase of Micro LED display products.

In December last year, Sanan Optoelectronics’ wholly-owned subsidiary Aimaipu Optoelectronics announced that it had successfully developed and mass-produced Micro LED devices MiP0404 and MiP0202, as well as Micro LED display panels MiP0.78, MiP0.9 and other series of products. At present, Aimaipu Optoelectronics' monthly MiP production capacity is 2000KK, and it plans to increase the production capacity to 5000KK/month by the end of 2025.

In addition, Aimaipu has also cooperated with Xinying Optoelectronics in Micro LED chip technology, chip-scale packaging technology, mass transfer technology, etc., aiming to promote the coordinated development of the entire industry chain.

In terms of products, on March 19 this year, BOE Huacan Micro LED factory held a product delivery ceremony for the world's first 6-inch Micro LED mass production line in Jinwan District, Zhuhai. At the ceremony, BOE Huacan officially delivered MPD products to customers, which are MIP packaging technology products in the industry.

BOE Huacan adopts MPD product form for shipment. This approach effectively meets the challenges of COB packaging method and improves the synergy effect of the upstream and downstream industry chain of the display chip industry by reducing packaging costs and precision requirements.

In addition, on February 17 this year, Suzhou Lishen Semiconductor Co., Ltd. released the industry's first silicon-based GaN single-core integrated full-color Micro-LED chip - LEKIN-SiMiP, and cooperated with many display customers such as Huike to successfully verify the application of micro-pitch LED large-screen direct display. This technology effectively solves the problem of mass transfer and improves the pass-through yield rate.

It is worth noting that at the ISLE 2025 exhibition held in March this year, MiP-related technologies and new products were frequently unveiled.

Among them, Ledman Optoelectronics demonstrated the first product using Micro-level MIP technology. The high black area and low luminous surface of this product's MIP device improves the contrast of the COB panel, has a cold screen experience, and is waterproof, dustproof, anti-static, anti-bump, moisture-proof, mildew-proof and other functions. In addition, the product has higher color reproduction and a true contrast ratio of 20,000:1.
