Xiamen’s LED industry model has achieved remarkable results

Data show that in the past five years, the direct output value and total output value of Xiamen's LED industry have shown a linear upward trend, with an average annual growth rate of nearly 35%. In the fields of extension and chips, Xiamen's annual total LED chip production (mainly high power) is 68 billion, accounting for more than 60% of domestic LED chip production. It has been the largest in the country for 12 consecutive years. The largest, most technologically advanced and most comprehensive LED epitaxial chip production base; in the field of application, according to statistics provided by the customs, Xiamen holds five of the top ten companies exporting LED bulbs in China, accounting for "half of the country" in terms of export scale, making it one of the world's largest manufacturing and export bases for high-end LED bulbs.

In addition to the impressive overall performance of the industry, Xiamen LED companies also have many highlights. Following the listing of companies such as Sanan Optoelectronics and Qianzhao Optoelectronics, there has been an upsurge in the listing of LED companies in recent years. Four innovative backbone companies, including Xinghenglong, Guangpu, Langxing and Guanyu, have been listed on the New Third Board. The number of listed companies with LED as their main business direction has increased to 13.

At the same time, Xiamen City has given full play to the leading role of leading enterprises, and its industrial agglomeration and radiation power have continued to increase. It is understood that Sanan Optoelectronics has invested 10 billion yuan in Xiamen and its grand plan to purchase 200 MOCVD units is progressing smoothly. The equipment is currently being put in place and being debugged. In the future, it will build the world's largest single-scale LED blue and green epitaxial wafer and chip production lines, and innovate in the third-generation semiconductor optoelectronics industry.

The market for cross-strait cooperation is vast

According to reports, since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", Xiamen City has actively configured an innovation chain around the LED industry chain, fully stimulated the enthusiasm of enterprises for innovation, and supported enterprises to carry out innovative research on core and key technologies around the direction of market and technological development. Xiamen City integrates the two forces of industrial economy and technological innovation for development. We are the first in the country to establish an industrial technology innovation strategic alliance, promoting the collaborative innovation and complementary advantages of upstream, mid and downstream enterprises in the LED industry chain, and promoting Xiamen's LED chip, packaging, high-power LED street light light distribution and heat dissipation technologies to reach the domestic advanced level; promoting the cooperation and development of enterprises in the entire industry chain; promoting key enterprises such as Hualian Electronics, San'an and Xiamen University to jointly implement a number of national science and technology plan projects.

Professional methods have effectively promoted the rapid growth of the market. In 2014, Xiamen exported LED products worth US$660 million, a year-on-year increase of 47.2%, ranking among the top in the country.

Today, in the deepening economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, optoelectronics, especially the LED industry, is one of the most representative areas of cooperation. "The Xiamen-Taiwan LED cooperation model has important reference significance for the development of cross-strait relations in other fields." It is understood that in recent years, the LED industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, especially in Xiamen and Taiwan, have their own characteristics and complementary advantages, with huge cooperation potential and broad space for cooperation. The two sides of the Taiwan Strait have conducted in-depth and fruitful cooperation in LED industry docking, technology research and development, technical standards, testing and certification, platform construction, industrial information and many other aspects. Currently, Xiamen has become a pioneer demonstration area for cross-strait LED industry cooperation.

LED lighting innovation meets industry challenges

On the other hand, various factors such as the slowdown in economic growth and its own structural adjustment have become the biggest challenges currently faced by the lighting industry. Dou Linping, secretary-general of the China Illuminating Society, who has been in the lighting industry for more than 30 years, shared his personal views: "Faced with these phenomena, companies cannot just think about getting bigger, but also think about doing well. Product development must give full play to the characteristics of LEDs, and market segments must be specialized, deep, and strong.
