On this very fashionable beauty pageant stage, a silver-haired scientist has served as a judge for two consecutive years and has generously donated funds to cooperate with the event. He is Yu Zhilong, the founder of super-quantum LED theory. He has devoted his life to energy-saving lighting and hopes to help more people escape light poverty.

On the evening of October 26, beauties gathered at Shanghai Repulse Bay Cultural and Art Center, and a "Beautiful Showdown" was staged gorgeously. The silver-haired Yu Zhilong put on a shirt and suit, walked steadily onto the stage, and delivered a speech for the competition, "Dedicated to the most beautiful lady on earth."

Scientists and beauty pageants may sound unrelated, but in fact they are inextricably linked. "Miss Earth" is an international beauty pageant dedicated to environmental protection and charity. Its environmental purpose is to adhere to green and low-carbon environmental protection concepts to jointly build a sustainable human society; to work hand in hand with countries around the world to promote the popularization and application of new energy, new materials, and new technologies. Yu Zhilong is the founder of the super-quantum LED theory and focuses on lighting energy-saving research. It is not only of great significance to environmental protection, but also closely related to human life quality and health. The environmental protection theme of Miss Earth China this year is "Lighting up the Belt and Road with Love". "Currently, there are 1.3 billion people in the world who do not have Electricity is still using kerosene lamps as lighting sources that are environmentally unfriendly and harmful to health, and we are still in light poverty. This is the second time that Yu Zhilong has served as a judge for "Miss Earth". He said confidently: "This competition is very fair. There is no shady matter. Whoever performs well on the spot will be chosen." Last year's champion was Shen Yinyi, a talented student from the Law Department of Fudan University, who combines beauty, wisdom, talent and love. In the year after winning the championship, she traveled around as an environmental ambassador, bringing advanced foreign environmentally friendly lighting achievements back to China, and also bringing the latest achievements in Chinese environmentally friendly technology products abroad.

Super quantum LED light bulb lighting is one of the representative products of environmentally friendly technology products with the greatest development potential. As far as our country is concerned, lighting electricity consumption in 2014 was about 750 billion kilowatt-hours. If 15% of lighting sources are switched to high-efficiency and energy-saving super quantum LEDs, it will be equivalent to building a Three Gorges Power Station for the country. Yu Zhilong’s business card shows that he is both the dean of the Straits (Liancheng) Optoelectronics Industry Technology Research Institute and the chairman of Fujian William Adwa Optoelectronics Industry Development Co., Ltd. William is the English name of Yu Zhilong. This Chinese-American professor who grew up in Shanghai and is the world's leading scientist in LED lighting has brought the core and most advanced technology back to China and launched his low-carbon lighting dream in Liancheng, Fujian.

More than 30 years ago, he slowly explored the world of light. In 1978, after the college entrance examination was resumed, Yu Zhilong was admitted to Tongji University and studied under Professor Yu Lihua, who is known as the founder of electrical lighting in my country. He assisted him in establishing a lighting laboratory and designed my country's first large-scale automatic goniophotometer. After graduation, Yu Zhilong designed special lamps for classrooms due to the dim lighting in the teaching building at that time, which were tested to increase the illumination by more than 20%. This invention not only made Yu Zhilong famous in the lighting industry, but also received a 32-square-meter house in 1983, which can be said to be a generous salary.

However, Yu Zhilong was not satisfied with the status quo. In 1985, he went to the United States to study at his own expense and continued to engage in electrical automation research. His research result, the ultraviolet dimmer, was patented again and received an award from the University of Maryland. In 1996, he responded to the call of his motherland and returned to Shanghai to establish a lighting and electrical company, bringing the most advanced LED lamp technology to China.

Over the years, Yu Zhilong’s LED technology has been used in the large-scale outdoor LOGO of Oriental TV Station, in the transformation of garage lights in a central urban area, in the pillar-free hall of the International Conference Center, in the 30-meter-high work area of ​​the shipyard, on the streets of Liancheng, Fujian, and has also entered the North American market...

Thirty years of practical experience have finally formed ultra-quantum LED technology. Up to now, ultra-quantum technology has obtained 8 international and domestic invention patents, 5 utility model patents, and applied for 11 invention patents. The effective light quantum efficiency of lamps using this technology is 10-60% higher than the existing technology in the world. Ultra-quantum LED technology has obtained a 50,000-hour lifespan certification issued by the U.S. "Energy Star" with completely independent intellectual property rights, realizing the maximum effective light quantum efficiency of lamps.

Love career and love art, bringing low-carbon LED lighting into people's homes

Yu Zhilong said that when he was in the United States, he often participated in charity activities with his wife Mai Suixiang, and many of the activities were related to art. He learned the violin since he was a child and believes that music can develop intelligence, inspire thoughts, and is helpful for creation. He participated in charity performances of the band and rehearsed charity musicals. He was so busy that others almost forgot that he was a scientist.

Back in China, this artistic imagination did not stop. As a senior intellectual, he was selected into the "Three High" orchestra as a violist and performed with the orchestra all over the world. Before and after the Double Ninth Festival, he also collaborated with members of the orchestra to play lawn concerts at the Science Hall to express condolences to the old scientists. Now, he has become a judge of "Miss Earth", which is also an activity that combines art and charity.

However, Yu Zhilong believes that the most practical environmental protection is to bring ultra-quantum green low-carbon lighting into ordinary people's homes and use technology to realize environmental protection dreams. In the past 30 years, he has only done one thing, which is to continuously improve the energy efficiency, lifespan and cost-effectiveness of lighting fixtures.

From 2013 when the company settled in Liancheng, Fujian Province, in February 2015, the world's first high-speed automatic production line for ultra-quantum LED bulbs was launched. This production line manufactures a bulb every 1.5 seconds, saving more than 90% of labor. Due to the use of solder-free technology, the entire production process is pollution-free. These lighting products include super quantum light bulbs, street lights, high bay lights, downlights, fluorescent lamps, etc. One of the bulbs can replace 40W incandescent lamps and has obtained CE certification. It can well restore the true color of objects. Its light efficiency is 20 to 70% higher than similar products of the world's mainstream brands on the market. The product's cost performance is more than twice that. It has the characteristics of high light efficiency, long life, high cost performance, no flicker, and no electromagnetic radiation.
