The section from Zhonghe Interchange to Wansongling on Zhonghe Road in Hangzhou is 5 kilometers long. There are about 550 street lights along the road, two lights per pole. These 1,100 or so lamps will all be updated before the end of May.
Staff at the Lighting Supervision Center of the Municipal Urban Management Committee said that the current street light source is a 23-watt energy-saving lamp with a pole height of 3.5 meters. This kind of lamp cannot concentrate light and is not high enough. The area where the light can shine is only about two motor vehicle lanes. Zhonghe Road has 4 or even 6 lanes in some places, and with the sidewalks on both sides, the brightness is insufficient.
What will it look like instead? After trying various solutions, the Municipal Lighting Center and Street Lighting Office decided to replace the street light poles with 5-meter poles and use 90-watt LED lights as the light source.
"Although the number of street lights remains unchanged, they can illuminate the sidewalk after the update." The staff said that the lighting center requires the construction unit to complete the replacement before the end of May, that is, starting from June, everyone walking on Zhonghe Road at night will have significantly better sightlines than now.
Considering the Shangtang Viaduct north of the Zhonghe Interchange, the Shangtang Road street lights under the bridge use cut-off sodium lamps, and the lampshades are reflective, which can basically meet the road lighting needs, so they are not included in this transformation.
