Meta plans to launch high-end glasses Hypernova by the end of the year, which may cost $1,400

News on April 2, according to Bloomberg, technology giant Meta is planning to launch a high-end version of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses series, which has a built-in display and is expected to be officially launched as early as the end of this year.

This new smart glasses, internally codenamed "Hypernova", will have functions such as running applications and displaying photos. Users can control it through gestures and the capacitive touch area on the side of the frame. Bloomberg news points out that the screen of the glasses is only visible in the lower right corner area of the right lens, and is best viewed when the user's gaze is downward. When the device starts up, a main interface will appear on the screen with icons arranged in a horizontal manner, which is similar to the way the Meta Quest headset is displayed.

The report also mentioned that compared with the models currently on sale, Hypernova will be equipped with a camera with better performance, and will continue to practice and deepen the product concept of "letting AI chatbots always accompany you".

In terms of price, Bloomberg expects Hypernova to sell for more than $1,000, and may even reach $1,300 to $1,400. In comparison, the current smart glasses from Meta and Ray-Ban start at $299.

In terms of product positioning, Meta aims Hypernova at the "mid-range" smart glasses market, aiming to compete with glasses with text display functions that emerged in large numbers at CES. Meanwhile, the Orion glasses Meta is developing will retain more advanced augmented reality technology.

Despite its mid-range positioning, Hypernova's high pricing may be related to the fact that it bundles a "neural" wristband controller code-named "Ceres" that was originally designed for Orion glasses.

In addition, Bloomberg also revealed that Meta has begun to develop Hypernova's next-generation product, code-named "Hypernova 2". Hypernova 2 is said to be equipped with two displays, and the company plans to It will be launched on the market in 2027.
