Since 2025, the construction of Mini/Micro LED projects has continued to heat up, and important progress such as production, capping, construction commencement and contract signing have been reported for multiple projects, involving chips, modules, displays and other fields.
The main body of the Xining MLED display module project factory has been capped off
Recently, news from the "Xining Development Zone" showed that the main body of the Xining New Display Industrial Park Phase I MLED display module project factory newly attracted by Dongchuan Industrial Park in Xining Economic and Technological Development Zone has been successfully capped. The total investment in the project is approximately 28.5 billion yuan, focusing on the construction of five projects including MLED display chips, MLED display modules, and ultra-thin and ultra-large electronic materials.
The project is constructed in three phases. The first phase of the MLED display module project with an annual output of 66,000 square meters has a total investment of approximately 3 billion yuan and covers an area of approximately 110 acres. It focuses on the construction of a science and technology innovation center, main factory building and ancillary facilities, with a total construction area of approximately 43,000 square meters. The project is expected to be put into trial production at the end of June this year, and the annual output value is expected to be approximately 3 billion yuan after achieving results.
It is reported that Xining New Display Industrial Park will be launched in February 2024
The company signed a contract and landed in Dongchuan Industrial Park, Xining Economic and Technological Development Zone, Qinghai Province. These include MLED display chip production projects and MLED display module production projects, with annual output of 1.3 million MLED display chips and 110,000 square meters of MLED display modules planned respectively.
The progress of MLED projects in 2025 is in full swing
In addition to the above-mentioned projects, there are also many Mini/Micro LED projects that will usher in important progress in 2025.
In terms of project commissioning, on January 18, TCL Huarui Lighting held a commissioning ceremony for the first phase of the Mini LED COB project, marking the further improvement of its Mini LED production capacity. Currently, the second phase of the Mini LED COB project is also under intense construction and is expected to reach delivery standards by the middle of the year. After the two phases of the project are put into operation, TCL Huarui Lighting will have a total of more than 30 production lines.
In addition, multiple MLED projects have entered the capping stage, and the construction of related projects is also progressing in an orderly manner.
On January 6, the capping ceremony of the "High-Precision Mask Production Base Construction Project" of Qingyi Optoelectronics' Foshan production base was held. The project plans to invest 800 million yuan, and the main implementation entity is Foshan Qingyi. It plans to use 600 million yuan of raised funds to mainly produce high-precision masks for generations 8.6 and below, which are used in flat-panel display mask products such as Micro LED.
On January 25, BOE MLED Zhuhai Crystal Core held a lighting ceremony. At the ceremony site, Zhuhai Jingxin COB products were successfully lit. The total investment in the project is approximately 1 billion yuan, and the project is scheduled to start in September 2024.
Construction will be completed and the equipment will be moved in at the end of December. In the first quarter of 2025, MLED direct display products will be lit and will be fully mass-produced.
On January 3, the first phase of the Mini LED production line of Xinleguang Backlight & Direct Display Industrial Park with a total investment of 800 million yuan was officially lit. Guangdong Xinleguang focuses on the research, development and application of Mini LED COB and POB backlight products and Mini LED direct display products.
On the same day, the second phase project of Hongming Technology’s LED/Mini LED new display light source production base was successfully completed. The project has a total investment of 200 million yuan and three new rapid production lines. It is expected to process 75 million pieces of LED light strips and 5 million pieces of Mini LED COB light panels annually. One OBA film production line for Mini LED COB direct display has completed customer review and batch trial production.
In addition, on January 2, Thunderbird Optics started the annual production of 1.2 million Micro LED full-color light engine project. It is reported that in September last year, Thunderbird Innovative Optics R&D and Manufacturing Headquarters signed a contract to land in Nanhu, Jiaxing, and will focus on optical layout.
R&D center, optical-mechanical module production line and many other contents. Among them, the optical-mechanical module production line is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 1.05 million sets of optical-mechanical modules.
The pace of expansion of the MLED industry is also significant. Changsha Micro LED intelligent manufacturing base project, West Lake Yanshan Micro LED chip project, Huike Mini LED backlight/direct display module and complete machine projects have been signed and implemented one after another.
Among them, the Huike Mini LED backlight/direct display module and complete machine project was signed and settled in Liuyang on January 9, with a total investment of 9 billion yuan and an area of approximately 109 acres. Previously, Huike also launched a Mini LED project with a total investment of 7 billion yuan in Mianyang, Sichuan; it promoted the implementation of MLED COB products and planned to build a leading domestic electronic price tag and display equipment production base.
Summary
Overall, the MLED industry is in a period of rapid expansion, covering various stages such as production, contract signing, capping, and start of construction. Major companies are accelerating the implementation of projects and promoting the industrial application of Mini/Micro LED technology.
In the future, as the demand for high-performance Mini/Micro LED technology continues to grow in fields such as AR/VR equipment, vehicle-mounted displays, TVs, and large-size direct displays, it is expected that more project developments will emerge.
For example, the application demand of Micro LED in AR glasses is gradually emerging. According to TrendForce's "2024 Near-Eye Display Market Trends and Technology Analysis" report, the AR device market size is expected to reach 25.5 million units by 2030, and Micro LED's market share is expected to increase to 44%, demonstrating broad market prospects.
At the same time, Mini/Micro LED technology has also shown development advantages in the field of automotive display. Its high brightness, high contrast, wide color gamut and other characteristics enable it to be integrated into smart cockpit integrated display solutions. According to TrendForce's analysis, it is expected that the penetration rate of Mini LED backlight in the automotive field will reach 6% in 2028, an increase of approximately 10 times compared with 2024.
Additionally, according to TrendFo
According to the analysis of rce TrendForce, Micro LED can be combined with transparent displays and car windows, and can also be used in the form of AR-HUD or P-HUD to meet the needs of drivers and passengers to integrate virtual and real information in automotive scenarios. This is also expected to increase the application potential of Micro LED in the field of automotive displays.
