On April 17, US microdisplay manufacturer KOPIN announced that the company had received a multi-year contract from a US Department of Defense first-level contractor with a total amount of US$7.5 million (approximately RMB 54.71 million) to supply microdisplays for pilot helmet display systems (Helmet Mounted Display Systems, HMDS), which will have AR capabilities.
This business is a new order for the previous US$6 million pilot helmet display project. With the confirmation of the new order, KOPIN’s total orders for pilot helmet display projects this year have reached US$13.5 million.
It is reported that KOPIN’s microdisplay can provide pilots with special advantages in high-pressure environments. With the customized helmet, pilots can easily obtain key information related to the mission and improve situational awareness. Pilots can also seamlessly interact with aircraft systems to quickly respond to changing battlefield conditions.
According to information, KOPIN was founded in 1984 and is a supplier of specialized optical systems and high-performance microdisplays for the defense, enterprise, consumer and medical fields. KOPIN's microdisplay technology products include: AMLCD, LCOS, Micro OLED, Micro LED microdisplays, as well as various optical devices and low-power ASIC products.
In terms of performance, thanks to the increase in product shipments for thermal imaging weapon sight applications, KOPIN will achieve total revenue of US$50.03 million in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 24.6%. Looking ahead to 2025, KOPIN expects company revenue to be in the range of $52 million to $55 million.
