BOE finalizes supplier of evaporation equipment for second phase of 8.6-generation OLED production line

On February 25, Sunic System announced that it had received an order from BOE to provide evaporation equipment for mass production of OLEDs. The contract termination date is December 21, 2027. Due to the involvement of commercial secrets, the contract amount has not been disclosed.

The equipment will be supplied to the 8.6-generation OLED production line being built by BOE in the Chengdu High-tech Industrial Development Zone in China. Currently, BOE is building a production base with a monthly production capacity of 32,000 pieces of 8.6-generation glass substrates. It is reported that this contract is part of the second phase of investment in the project, and the second phase production capacity is 16,000 pieces per month.

Evaporation equipment is the core equipment of OLED manufacturing. Its function is to stack organic matter on the glass substrate to form pixels. In the 6th generation and before, the evaporation equipment market has been monopolized by Japan's Canon Special Machinery. As Sunic System successfully obtained the first- and second-phase supply contracts from BOE, the pattern of the 8.6-generation market is changing.

As early as June 2024, Sunic System announced that it had signed an evaporation equipment supply contract for the first phase investment of BOE’s 8.6-generation OLED production line. The contract amount was not disclosed at that time.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to Sunic System, BOE has also reached a cooperation with Avaco, a Korean company, and will introduce the evaporation delivery system produced by the latter.

It is reported that Avaco's equipment can protect masks and substrates during OLED mass production and ensure stable connection of the production process. It precisely controls the microscopic position of the substrate and maintains stable temperature, humidity and vacuum environments to minimize contact with foreign objects.

With the finalization of key equipment suppliers for BOE’s 8.6-generation OLED production line, the mass production process of the project is progressing steadily.
