With an investment of 1.5 billion, Minxin Semiconductor silicon photonics project started construction in Wuhan

On May 15, Wuhan Future Science and Technology City reported that Wuhan Minxin Semiconductor Co., Ltd.’s Future City R&D and production base held a groundbreaking ceremony, and the project officially entered the construction stage.

The project has a total construction area of approximately 67,000 square meters and a total investment of nearly 1.5 billion. After the project is completed, it will serve as the headquarters base of Wuhan Minxin Semiconductor, focusing on the R&D and production of silicon light source chips. The project is scheduled to be fully completed in July 2027, with equipment debugging completed and officially put into production by the end of September of the same year.

It is reported that Minxin Semiconductor focuses on the research and development, manufacturing and sales of lasers and detector chips for optical communications. Its products cover laser and detector optical chips and packaged devices with 2.5G, 10G, 25G, 50G and other speed specifications, which are mainly used in optical communications, industrial lasers, sensing and other fields. The company has an optical chip production line and packaging platform based on the InP material system, and has achieved mass production and shipment of a variety of mid-to-high-end optical chips.

In the core application of high-speed optical modules in data centers and computing centers, Minxin Semiconductor has deployed key products such as high-power continuous wave (CW) laser chips and high-speed detector chips. At present, Minxin Semiconductor has become the core supplier of silicon light source chips in the world and has achieved batch delivery of CW laser chips.
