▼ NPQD® refers to quantum dot (Quantum Dot) chip integration technology based on nanopore structures (Nanopores). The nanopore structure has a unique scattering effect, which can greatly increase the effective light path, improve light conversion efficiency, and enhance the reliability of quantum dots.
This time, the NPQD® R1 Micro LED chip jointly developed by Leyard and Saphlux and put into mass production not only solves the problems of traditional chips such as hot and cold effects, difficult separation, low efficiency, low yield and high cost, but also achieves better display effects by combining the advantages of quantum dot materials with wide color gamut, color stability and good consistency.

▼ Leyard said that continuous innovation is the inexhaustible driving force for the company to lead the development of the industry. As early as 2017, Leyard proactively invested in Saphlux (12.37% stake) to jointly develop quantum dot and gallium nitride related technologies and lay out Micro LED displays.
As the second largest external shareholder of Saphlux, Leyard has maintained close cooperation and interaction with Saphlux for five years and finally achieved a major breakthrough in NPQD® Micro LED chip technology. "We will make large-scale purchases from Saphlux in the future," said Li Jun, chairman of Leyard Group.
As a company focusing on third-generation semiconductor technology, Saphlux now has two world-leading third-generation semiconductor technologies after more than ten years of accumulation from experimental research and development to industrialization at Yale University: semipolar gallium nitride materials and Micro LED.
In addition to the R1 chip, Saphlux has also successively achieved breakthroughs in full color and red light color conversion efficiency on the T1 series Micro LED display light engine technology route for AR/VR. It has been recognized by many leading companies in the industry and is expected to commercialize T1 series micro display products in 2023. As of the first half of this year, the company has completed 75 million in Series B financing, and will close the B+ round in the near future, and continue to increase the mass production of R1 chips and the research and development of T series products.
In the future, Leyard will cooperate with Saphlux to carry out cutting-edge exploration in the field of AR/VR, combining Leyard Virtual Motion Point’s optical three-dimensional motion capture system with Saphlux’s unique NPQD® Micro LED micro-display technology to provide software and hardware technical support for the realization of the Metaverse.
