Swedish MicroLED company completed late-stage seed round financing of RMB 27.17 million

Recently, Swedish Micro LED technology developer Hexagem announced the completion of a late-stage seed round of financing of 3.4 million euros (approximately RMB 27.17 million). This round of financing was led by Almi Invest and LMK Forward, with participation from institutions such as the European Innovation Council Fund (EIC Fund), Almi Invest Greentech, and Sveriges Sveriges Svenska Development Foundation.

According to reports, this round of funds will be mainly used to promote the research and development of 200mm wafer-level technology, expand partner-led device integration work, and accelerate the commercialization process of Micro LED material platforms.

Founded in 2015, Hexagem is a semiconductor start-up incubated by Lund University. It mainly focuses on the research and development of gallium nitride (GaN) nanowire materials and device technology. The company's core direction is to grow GaN materials on silicon-based wafers. It uses a selective epitaxial "vertical nanowire" process to reduce crystal defects and improve device performance.

Currently, Micro LED is regarded as one of the important directions of next-generation display technology. It has application potential in scenarios such as high brightness, low power consumption, long life and transparent display. It is also focused on areas such as high-speed optical communication and high-performance computing optical interconnection. However, Micro LED industrialization still faces challenges such as complex manufacturing processes, yield control, and insufficient luminous efficiency of small-size LEDs.

Hexagem said that its material platform mainly addresses efficiency and defect issues in the large-scale mass production of Micro LED. The company's sheet-structured indium gallium nitride (InGaN) epitaxial technology can manufacture sub-micron light-emitting units without plasma etching and improve deep red luminous efficiency. According to the company's disclosure, its deep red luminescence internal quantum efficiency has exceeded 50%.

In addition, this technology can also reduce material defect density and cover luminescence needs from red light to other visible light bands, providing technical support for the application of Micro LED in full-color displays and other directions. (Compiled by LEDinside)
