This virtual production studio is located on Yuyuan Road in the center of Shanghai, near Jiangsu Road. The studio uses Sony's Black Crystal B series LED screen, with a screen height of 5.47 meters, an arc length of 15.2 meters, and a total area of 83 square meters.
Sony aims to create high-standard virtual production solutions, so this virtual production studio is equipped with three core products: Sony's black crystal LED screen, CineAltaV 2 movie camera, and Sony 4K HDR monitor.
On the one hand, the LED screen with an area of 83 square meters meets the creator's needs for screen size. Even if there is interference from studio lighting and multiple photography lights during the shooting process, the LED screen can present real and delicate color levels and accurately restore scenes in different situations and under different lights.
The three core products of Sony LED screen, CineAltaV 2 movie camera, and Sony 4K HDR monitor are used together. In the real shooting process, the advantages of unified scientific color management of different core products of the same brand are highlighted. Without the need for complex post-production color correction, the picture the audience sees through the monitor has quite accurate colors, showing a movie-level texture, making people unable to feel the boundary between the real world and the virtual world.
In terms of Sony black crystal LED screens, Sony engineers have made many product improvements for virtual studio applications. The brightness can reach up to 1800nit, which is almost uninterrupted by light and presents a bright background picture. It also has excellent anti-reflective properties, with a DOI index value of 0 and almost no reflection. The black crystal LED screen also has a high contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, which enhances the performance of dark details and captures subtle changes in dark details, making the picture more realistic. The wide viewing angle can reach 170 degrees horizontally / 170 degrees vertically, and there is basically no color cast when shooting from the side. Photographers can safely shoot from a wide angle and have more creative freedom.
The black crystal LED screen is equipped with an X1 chip, which allows the LED screen to support a wide color gamut including sRGB, DCI-P3, and BT.2020, and has better color gradation performance.
In addition, Sony has developed two features specifically for virtual production design. One is Camera Sync (IT Home Note: Camera Synchronization). The Black Crystal B series LED screen is used in conjunction with Sony CineAltaV / CineAltaV 2. The shutter opening angle and frame rate of the camera are set on the display screen, and synchronization is achieved through advanced algorithms. This function can effectively reduce the undesirable phenomena that occur when the camera shoots the LED screen, so that the ideal picture close to the finished film can be seen through the monitor.
The other is to support the mainstream lighting control protocol Art-Net, which can freely control the LED screen as lighting, and can adjust the color temperature, RGB value, etc. of the black crystal LED screen through the same operation control interface together with other lighting equipment, improving and simplifying the workflow.
In addition to the support of these black technologies, this virtual production studio also adopts a unique design. The studio is equipped with a mobile LED screen, which facilitates photographers to complete dual-camera shooting, reduce rendering pressure, supplement the shooting effects of different camera positions, and can also complete high-quality color fill light, real-time positioning and other tasks.
This virtual production studio can implement cutting-edge motion capture technology thanks to the advanced UE5 real-time rendering system and OptiTrack optical motion capture tracking system. It accurately captures and tracks camera movements through 24 high-speed cameras and synchronizes them to UE5. The rendered images are displayed on the LED screen in real time with low latency.
