On March 4, according to Korean media iNews24, Semes, the world's leading semiconductor and display equipment manufacturer, announced that the world's first independently developed 8th generation high-resolution QD-OLED inkjet printing equipment was officially successfully shipped.
Semes held a grand shipping ceremony on the same day for its 8th generation high-resolution QD-OLED inkjet equipment code-named "Vincent". This equipment is mainly used in the quantum dot color filter process, a core link in high-resolution TV and display manufacturing.
Its working principle is to mix quantum dots and special solvents to form QD ink, and spray it with tiny droplets of picoliter level to achieve precise coating within microns. Since ultra-fine ink needs to be sprayed evenly on hundreds of millions of pixels, this process requires extremely high technical precision.
It is reported that the "Vincent" equipment has significantly improved production efficiency by being equipped with more than 100 nozzles, and its resolution is as high as 220ppi, which is more than 30% higher than existing equipment.
Semes explained that this breakthrough can effectively reduce color bleeding or edge distortion around tiny text, and significantly alleviate the stripe effect unique to QD-OLED displays. At the same time, high-precision inkjet printing technology ensures even distribution of ink volume in fine pixels, allowing high-resolution products to have more stable brightness characteristics.
The person in charge of the Semes Display Division said at the shipping ceremony that the company not only mastered the world's first 8th generation high-resolution QD inkjet mass production technology, but also successfully delivered the first device, which fully proved Semes' technical capabilities in the global display field. With the growing market demand for high-resolution TVs and monitors, this device is expected to bring considerable revenue growth to the company.
According to data, Semes was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in South Korea. It is a core subsidiary of Samsung Electronics and is currently the largest semiconductor and display equipment manufacturing company in South Korea.
As a key supplier in the global semiconductor industry chain, Semes' product lines cover a wide range of core process areas such as cleaning, glue development, etching and display panel manufacturing.
With close collaboration with Samsung Display, Semes is promoting the development of mass production of next-generation display technology.
