On April 1, Samsung Electronics released the latest Onyx cinema LED screen at CinemaCon 2025. Onyx is the world's first DCI-certified Class 1 cinema-grade LED display, featuring high contrast and color accuracy, and supports up to 4K 120Hz frame rate to enhance the viewing experience.
The product is available in four standard sizes and supports flexible scaling to meet the needs of different theaters: 5 meters, suitable for small theaters, with a pixel pitch of 1.25 mm; 10 meters, an industry standard size, with a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm; 14 meters, suitable for medium-sized theaters, with a pixel pitch of 3.3 mm; 20 meters, suitable for large-scale theaters, with a pixel pitch of 5.0 mm.
Onyx cinema LED screens natively support two aspect ratios: 2.39:1 and 1.85:1, and can maintain the ratio when zooming in to reduce picture distortion. Unlike traditional projection, LED technology can maintain color accuracy at higher brightness and supports Samsung HDR technology with a peak brightness of 300 nits.
The screen can be used for traditional movie screenings, as well as for live sports, concerts, gaming events and corporate presentations. Samsung backs the Onyx with a 10-year warranty and comes with automatic calibration to ensure long-term stability. In addition, Onyx is compatible with Dolby and GDC media servers, and supports cinema audio systems such as Dolby Atmos, Meyer Sound and QSC, allowing cinemas to adjust sound effects according to needs.
Recently, this equipment has been installed in the Pathé Palace Cinema in Paris to enhance the audio-visual experience in the cinema.
