According to industry news on February 13, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are expanding their Micro LED product portfolios this year.

Micro LED has extremely high efficiency and reliability and can be infinitely expanded to cope with various environments. Therefore, in recent years, in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, Micro LED has attracted much attention from the industry as a high-end display technology.
According to market research company Markets and Markets, the Micro LED market size will expand to US$21.169 billion in 2027, with an average annual growth rate of 81.5%.
Micro LED uses LEDs measured in microns (μm) to emit light and color on its own without the need for backlights or color filters, achieving optimal picture quality and providing wide viewing angles without distortion.
Micro LED is installed in the form of modules, and the shape, proportion, and size can be freely adjusted, and the screen can also be customized according to user needs.
The use of inorganic materials for Micro LED is also a major advantage. Inorganic materials are different from organic materials and have a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, so there is no need to worry about thermal degradation or screen burn-in.
Samsung Electronics places Micro LED at the top of its TV product line. Although the current price is still high, the possibilities are great in terms of differentiated image quality and scalability.
At CES 2023, the world's largest IT and exhibition held in January this year, Samsung Electronics launched a more diverse range of Micro LED TVs.
In order to allow more consumers to enjoy world-class picture quality and screen experience, Samsung Electronics has significantly increased its Micro LED lineup from 50 inches to 140 inches. At the exhibition, Samsung Electronics introduced 50, 63, 76, 89, 101, 114 and 140-inch models.

LG Electronics recently released the 272-inch Micro LED sign "LG MAGNIT" with a resolution of 8K (7680×4320) at the commercial display exhibition ISE 2023 held in Barcelona, Spain. This is the first time LG Electronics has launched Micro LED with 8K resolution.
On the other hand, it is expected that the research and development of Micro LED technology in South Korea will further accelerate. Last month, five technologies including OLED panels and Micro LED displays were designated as South Korea’s national strategic technologies.
Industry insiders said, “With display technology designated as a national strategic technology, Korean manufacturers are expected to make proactive investments to enhance industrial competitiveness.”
