OLED will become the star of tomorrow, complementary LED will create a new blue ocean of lighting

LED and OLED lighting have their own advantages. LED point light sources and OLED light sources are soft and will become new materials for interior design. The two can complement each other to create a new blue ocean of lighting.

Liu Junting, Director of Optoelectronics of Taiwan Industrial Research Institute, pointed out at the 2015 Taiwan Solid State Lighting International Symposium yesterday (25th) that Taiwan’s LED industry has strong manufacturing capabilities and an orderly industrial structure. It can quickly integrate in the face of new market opportunities and develop towards high-value system integration applications.

In addition to LED, the focus of this seminar is OLED lighting, which is thin, flexible and close to sunlight, and is regarded as the next generation lighting star. ITRI and the Illuminating Association jointly created the "OLED Lighting Theme Pavilion" and exhibited 37 OLED lamps at the 2015 Lighting Exhibition. This was also the first large-scale OLED commercial display in Taiwan.

The latest "2015 Global LED Lighting Market Trends" report from TrendForce's Green Energy Division shows that the global lighting market will reach US$82.1 billion in 2015, of which the LED lighting market will reach US$25.7 billion, with a market penetration rate of 31%. Liu Junting said that smart lighting that integrates systems, software and services will become the focus of the market.

As LED technology matures, manufacturers begin to seek new blue oceans and move toward customized smart lighting designs. When invited to share the "New Experience of LED Automotive Lighting", Everlight R&D Manager Lu Zonglin said that with the popularization of lighting applications, LEDs have gradually been applied to automotive products. In the past, drivers judged dangerous passive safety, and through the combination of LED advanced technology and electronic technology, we are moving towards active safety smart vehicles.

Liu Junting, Director of the Institute of Electronics and Optoelectronics of ITRI: "2015 is called the first year of OLED. It started to take off in large quantities, probably in 2017. By 2020, the output value of LED and OLED will be about 3 to 1. More and more markets can be developed and more and more applications can be developed, so they complement each other and continuously amplify the entire output value."

Taiwan District Lighting Export Industry Association Lin Qingyuan, chairman of the association: "Of course, the combination of the two will not only produce output value, but will also be a big progress for our human lives."

OLED is a flat light source with soft light. It is currently used in art and home lighting and is expected to develop towards the decorative lighting market in the future. LED will extend to outdoor lighting. The two complement each other and will lead Taiwan's lighting industry towards another new thinking.
