Overall, LEDinside believes that the huge demand for China's downstream applications has provided a foundation for rapid development for China's local LED packaging manufacturers. It is estimated that Chinese LED manufacturers will continue to maintain a rapid development trend in the next few years.
LEDinside pointed out that since 2010, China’s local LED packaging manufacturers have entered a period of rapid development, supported by dual factors such as the rapid expansion of upstream industry production capacity and the expanding downstream application market. Today, Mulinsen has successfully ranked among the top five in China's packaging market share and has become China's leading local LED packaging manufacturer.
According to the survey, from 2010 to 2013, the compound growth rate of LED device revenue reached 53%. Other major (LED packaging) manufacturers Ruifeng Optoelectronics, Jufei Optoelectronics, and Changfang Lighting also achieved a compound annual growth rate of more than 30% during the same period.
As for major international manufacturers, the total revenue of international LED packaging manufacturers in the Chinese market in 2013 was US$2 billion, with an annual growth rate of 40%, mainly due to their patent advantages and benefiting from the rise of the lighting market. Among them, Nichia's revenue has the strongest annual growth rate of more than 70%, and its Chinese business revenue share has also increased to 29%. Seoul Semiconductor's annual LED packaging revenue in China increased by 80% last year, and its business in China accounted for approximately 19%. As for major international manufacturers such as Cree, Sharp, Philips, and Osram, their revenue in China also performed well.
In addition, except for Taiwanese manufacturers Everlight and Hongqi, other manufacturers’ (LED packaging) revenue in mainland China has declined. The main reason is that the rapid rise of mainland LED packaging manufacturers has posed a threat to Taiwanese manufacturers, but it will not have much impact on international manufacturers in the short term.
