LED patent war resumes, Jingdian sues Amazon TV for infringement

The LED industry has recently seen a resurgence in patent wars. Epistar, a subsidiary of Fucai (3714-TW), defends its TV backlight product patents and announced today (21st) that it would file a patent lawsuit in a Texas court against Amazon (AMZN-US)'s TV product line.

Epistar pointed out that the 43- and 50-inch TVs in the 4 series of Amazon's Fire TV product line infringe on at least 13 Epistar patents, covering everything from die to LED Key technologies such as substrates, epitaxial crystals, transparent conductive layers, and metal electrodes used in backlight modules were discussed, and a series of evidence was presented.

LED manufacturer Everlight (2393-TW) also recently filed a lawsuit with the Taiwan Intellectual Property and Commercial Court, accusing Tellus (2908-TW) of Tellus (2908-TW)'s LED products of Tellus, Zhansheng Lighting and China Electric Appliances for patent infringement, seeking compensation of 300 million yuan and demanding that it stop selling infringing products.

However, the lawsuit between Everlight and Tellus has made the latest progress today. Everlight announced the withdrawal of its lawsuit against Tellus. The two parties have reached a consensus and hope that the two parties will continue to strengthen cooperation in the future.
