On September 27, Indian company Focally launched the world's first full-color true AR glasses based on Micro LED. These glasses combine the most advanced USound MEMS speaker technology, optical display system and hardware.
According to information, Focally is a deep technology AR startup based in India. Its core mission is to launch AR wearable devices, XR Accessory devices and related software products enable consumers to harness the full potential of augmented reality technology. USound is a rapidly growing audio company that provides high-performance silicon speakers and high-quality sound solutions based on MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) technology, with more than 300 applied patents. The two companies have collaborated around Focally’s first-generation Universe AR glasses.
It is reported that the Universe AR glasses prototype developed by Focally is designed to explore the next generation of auxiliary AR applications, such as AR navigation, location-based applications, streaming video and audio, location-based games, artificial intelligence applications, etc. These smart glasses prototypes demonstrate the basic elements required for AR wearable devices, such as optical architecture, powerful sound systems, and real-time sensing capabilities integrated into an ergonomically compact eyewear device.
Specifically, the first-generation Universe AR glasses use a fully transparent waveguide with a 30-degree FOV combined with the world's smallest and brightest Micro LED full-color display engine. It integrates USound's patented two-way audio system with MEMS tweeters and motorized woofers, as well as dual microphones for noise reduction and spatial audio, making the glasses both a fully see-through display and USound MEMS speaker technology.
What is unique about USound MEMS speaker technology? Compared to competing speakers for headphones, TWS, headsets, smartphones, VR/AR glasses, wearables, and hearing aids, USound MEMS speakers require 50% less space, consume 80% less energy, and provide a larger frequency range area per unit.
Focally is one of the companies benefiting from USound MEMS audio solutions. It is reported that the solution will launch wearable devices and hearable device products to the market from 2022 to 2023.
In addition, the first generation Universe AR glasses devices demonstrate a unique computing architecture that performs onboard real-time sensing from sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, environment, gas composition, and infrared, and then performs application-specific calculations wirelessly on other powerful computer platforms such as smartphones to reduce energy consumption.
Focally said that with the launch of True AR spatial computing glass, they plan to use wearable computers to completely change the next generation of computing era. Focally is already developing a second-generation prototype with vision capabilities and advanced computing capabilities, which will be available on an optimized computer platform later in 2023.
