Enter SID 2025 and see the diverse applications of MicroLED

On May 13, US time, SID Display Week 2025 (SID 2025) officially opened at the San Jose Convention Center in California, USA. Display industry giants, cutting-edge technology companies and start-up teams from around the world gathered together to bring the latest generation of display solutions and concept products.

Among them, Micro LED technology has become the focus of each display company's display this time. Companies continue to improve the performance of Micro LED technology and continue to extend Micro LED applications from medium and large size displays to vehicle displays to near-eye displays, exploring the limits of Micro LED technology.

It can be observed from the SID 2025 exhibition that the performance of Micro LED commercial large-size display technology is continuing to improve, and in creative display applications such as transparent display and mirror display, Micro LED technology has also further matured.

Innolux


Innolux has launched a number of different types of Micro LED applications, including the world's first spliced Micro LED mirror display and high PPI Micro LED mirror display, both of which have high color gamut (NTSC 115%), high reflectivity (86%), and still provide high brightness under low power consumption. The products will be widely used in smart cockpits, smart retail and other fields;

The transparent Micro LED display adopts Innolux's own Transparency Display technology and has the characteristics of high brightness, high penetration, high clarity, high resolution and high color gamut (NTSC 120%). Its transparent display function can be customized according to the display needs and provides diverse splicing needs;

In the commercial display section, Innolux displayed a 101-inch color conversion Micro LED free splicing display module wall, which uses self-developed color conversion technology, LED chip on TFT glass (COG) mass transfer and repair technology, innovative splicing and surface treatment technology, etc. It also has four major features: P0.5mm pixel pitch, high color saturation, high ambient light contrast, and seamless splicing. The module can provide ultra-large display applications from 25.4 inches to 204 inches.

In addition, Innolux also exhibited its exclusive floating image technology innovation exhibit - Micro LED floating jewelry box. In addition to supporting non-contact gesture sensing technology, it can also recognize gesture actions in real time such as taking and rotating virtual objects. The exhibit is equipped with ultra-high brightness Micro LED display technology, and its floating image brightness can reach 1500 nits or above.

AU Optronics

AUO displays a 64-inch transparent Micro LED display spliced from the world's largest single-chip 42-inch transparent Micro LED display, with high transparency, 1,000 nits has multiple features such as high brightness, wide color gamut, and seamless splicing with no borders on three sides. It presents ultra-high-definition picture quality without blocking rear vision. It can be widely used in areas such as retail, art exhibitions, or commercial spaces.

In addition, AUO also showcased the world's first double-sided independent display 17.3-inch transparent Micro LED display, which is optimized for double-sided image light leakage interference and integrates visual information with the real environment.

TCL Huaxing

TCL Huaxing showcases a large 36:9 MLED display (219 inches) with million-level ultra-high contrast. It combines point-by-point consistent correction technology, factory color correction and on-site color correction technology to achieve clear, uniform and consistent display effects. Through free splicing, large scene displays of unlimited sizes can be achieved.

TCL Huaxing displays a transparent Micro LED display (8.42 inches), with Pitch 0.2 spacing, high PPI display and 5,000nits high brightness. It is suitable for high-brightness environments such as outdoor or exhibition halls. Combined with CG integration technology, it can create a borderless transparent display.

Unilumin Technology

Unilumin Technology displays a variety of LED display products, including the UpanelⅡ MIP series, which uses MIP packaging technology to achieve higher pixel density and more delicate image quality performance. It has high brightness, high contrast and wide color gamut coverage. Unilumin Technology has also optimized the driver IC and power management system to significantly reduce energy consumption while ensuring high brightness, meeting the image quality requirements of high-end commercial displays, stage performances and other scenes.

In addition, in response to the needs of overseas markets in the fields of program performance, film and television production, forums and conferences, Unilumin Technology showcased the Upad IV series of displays, which feature 7680Hz high refresh rate, 16-bit color processing depth, and high contrast, which can especially meet the high demand for LED displays in the film and television shooting industry.

Unilumin Technology also demonstrated its latest Unatural textured screen product on site, which is built with RGB fully inverted chips and uses nano-optical technology to ensure high brightness, low light loss, and low reflection. The texture is realistic when the screen is off, and the screen is clear when the screen is on. It can be better integrated into building materials.

Chenxian Optoelectronics

For the home theater market, Visionox's joint-stock company Chenxian Optoelectronics has brought the world's first 88-inch P0.5 TFT-based Micro LED splicing screen, with smaller pixels and more accurate presentation of details; it has a brightness of 2,000nits, a high contrast ratio of 26,000:1, and a 100% DCI-P3 100% cinema-level color gamut.

For emerging transparent display applications, Chenxian Optoelectronics brings the world's first P0.5 TFT-based Micro LED transparent screen product. Through micron-level LED chips and high aperture ratio TFT transparent substrates, the single screen transmittance is 72%, the brightness reaches 3,000nits, and supports unlimited splicing.

Digital Optical Core

Digital Optical Core exhibited the world's first 4K projection Micro LED chip and the world's first 4K Micro LED projector principle prototype.

It is reported that the 12-inch 4K high-definition silicon-based micro-display driver wafer released by Digital Optical Core this time is equipped with an advanced process and is adapted to the current mainstream Micro LED bonding process technology and the needs of downstream customers for display functions. It can control and adjust functions such as self-built testing, pixel array yield testing, signal synchronization, column data processing, and temperature sensing. The interface level is 1.8V CMOS standard and can be widely used in various miniaturized and high-resolution display systems.

Digital Optical Core launched its Micro LED digital projection solution for the motorcycle field for the first time on site, which has the advantages of low power consumption, high brightness, high resolution, small size, and high reliability.

Digital Optical Core also exhibited Micro LED 0.12-inch silicon-based display driver wafer, Micro LED three-color combined light micro-display driver system, LCoS technology route 2K&4K&8K wafer, Micro OLED 0.39-inch wafer, Micro OLED dual-chip display driver solution, AR glasses industry application exhibits, etc.

Micro LED automotive display applications

The demand for automotive displays is growing day by day. Micro LED technology has the characteristics of high brightness, high contrast, transparency, and flexibility, and is expected to be favored by more car companies in the field of automotive displays in the future.

Therefore, vehicle-mounted display has also become a key development direction for panel manufacturers. At the SID 2025 exhibition, panel manufacturers such as Tianma, BOE, Innolux, AUO, and TCL CSOT demonstrated the latest Micro LED automotive display application solutions to prepare for the future development of automotive display technology.

BOE

BOE exhibited a 6.2-inch high-brightness RGB Micro LED HUD. The product uses a unique GOA design to achieve splicing display and uses low-resistance copper technology to achieve high brightness. The pixel pitch of the product is P0.2, the resolution is 624 (RGB) * 360, the brightness can reach 30,000nits, covers 110% NTSC color gamut, and has a 60-120Hz refresh rate.

BOE also exhibited a Micro LED HUD with a brightness of 300,000 nits on site. The product uses a high-precision mass transfer process to achieve high PPI (pixel density); uses special pixel and driver design to achieve low power consumption; high-efficiency Micro LED and low-resistance copper process to increase brightness. The pixel pitch of the product is 58μm, the PPI is 431, and the resolution is 2560*1024.

Tianma exhibited an 8.07-inch Micro LED transparent low-reflective display, claiming to be the industry’s first Micro LED low-reflective transparent screen with the highest PPI, which can achieve a reflectivity of less than 3% at 167PPI and >50% transmittance. This product introduces an innovative low-reflective structure and low-reflective material, which allows the reflected light of the TFT backplane and external ambient light to be absorbed, thereby improving the image quality of the transparent screen. This transparent low-reflective display can be used in a variety of application scenarios, such as car windows, instruments, etc.

The 8-inch Micro LED IRIS HUD launched by Tianma is claimed to be the industry's first Micro LED PHUD (panoramic head-up display) with the highest PPI (167PPI). It can project key driving information such as navigation and vehicle speed directly onto the windshield, providing drivers with a safer and more focused display method.

Tianma's Micro LED IRIS HUD has a pixel density of 167PPI, its peak brightness exceeds 10,000nits, and the eye-level brightness exceeds 1,300nits. Even under direct sunlight, key driving information can be clearly seen. In addition, the transparency of the projection glass exceeds 86%, allowing the projected image to be seamlessly integrated with the external environment and clearly visible even in low-light conditions.

Compared with traditional LCD HUD, Tianma's Micro LED IRIS HUD adopts a compact, efficient and highly integrated design, with an overall smaller size and can seamlessly integrate into car interiors, providing car manufacturers with extremely high design flexibility.

TCL Huaxing

TCL Huaxing brings ultra-bright Micro LED PHUD display (14.3 inches), specially designed for automotive PHUD modules, integrating the advantages of Micro LED and LTPS technology to achieve ultra-high brightness, ultra-high contrast, high color gamut and other characteristics. The contrast ratio of this PHUD display is greater than 5:1 under strong ambient light, which greatly improves driving safety.

Innolux

In the automotive smart cockpit section, Innolux exhibited a high-definition PPI automotive Micro LED integrated cockpit concept display system, which can provide high brightness, high color gamut, ultra-high contrast and high durability, greatly solving the previous OLED and LCD problems Display solves the problem of low visibility in sunlight and snow. It is also flexible, rollable and projectable, and achieves extremely high display quality with low power consumption;

CarUX, a subsidiary of Innolux, also released a 9.6-inch Micro LED AR reflective display solution using omnidirectional reflective imaging technology at SID 2025. It uses a high-brightness, high-quality, low-energy Micro LED display module to project key information such as instrument indications and navigation directions onto the windshield through depth-of-field stereoscopic imaging, interface design, unique algorithms and exclusive image correction technology, so that the image is not affected by curved surface deformation.

In addition, CarUX also exhibited in-vehicle display products such as an interior integrated translucent leather module combined with direct Mini LED backlight technology; an active 34-inch Mini LED backlight automotive display.

AU Optronics

AUO has launched a 13-inch Micro LED head-up display, which can provide high eye brightness and high color saturation display quality, which can be clearly seen in the sun or in the dark. It takes advantage of the small size of Micro LED modules to solve the problem of limited vehicle space. It is reported that, combined with AI computing technology, the head-up display can integrate the instrument panel, center console and passenger display to create a 47.5-inch unbounded transparent display interface.

Micro LED/Micro OLED near-eye display application

With the resurgence of the popularity of smart glasses, the application development of near-eye display technology has also attracted much attention. At the SID 2025 exhibition, domestic and foreign display technology manufacturers such as Stan Technology, Hongshi Intelligent, Xitai Technology, Leiyu, Novision Technology, TCL Huaxing, Vuzix, VueReal, Porotech, and Polar Light have brought the latest Micro LED/Micro The OLED near-eye display solution creates a smaller-sized, higher-brightness, clearer, and more convenient near-eye display technology solution.

Stan Technology

Stan Technology displays a variety of Micro LED display modules, with ultra-high resolution, high brightness performance and flexible interface design, providing core solutions for new display scenarios such as AR/XR and smart vehicles.

Stan Technology's products at this exhibition cover 0.13/0.2/0.45-inch size series, monochrome/white light/full-color color schemes, with significant improvements in resolution, PPI, and brightness. Among them, the 0.2-inch full-color module continues the single-chip full-color solution of quantum dot color conversion. Currently, the resolution of this product has been further optimized to 320*320.

In addition, Stan Technology also demonstrated 0.2-inch display modules and 0.45-inch display modules in the field of vehicle projection, which feature high dynamic display and high-definition field of view.

Hongshi Intelligent

Hongshi Intelligent demonstrated a single-chip full-color micro-display light chip, which adopts Hongshi Intelligent’s original Hybrid Stack Structure key technology, with a target brightness of 2 million nits.

In addition, Hongshi Intelligent will also bring a series of terminal application products based on Aurora A6 single green micro-display light chip. Its product types involve smart wearables, heads-up displays, projection advertising, smart cars and other fields.

Xitai Technology

Xitai Technology brought 6 Micro OLED near-eye display products are built from 8-inch and 12-inch wafer production lines. The microdisplay size covers 0.23~1.35 inches, the resolution ranges from 640*400 to the highest 3552*3840, the uniformity is above 80% and 90%, and the contrast ratio is greater than 100000:1, which can bring high-definition display effects to AR/VR smart glasses.
