Colorite: Display color calibration technology leads a new era of vision

As display technology continues to evolve, Mini LED and Micro LED technology are becoming the new engine for industry development. However, as the pitch of LED products continues to become smaller, the color performance problem of the display screen has become more and more prominent, becoming a key factor restricting the improvement of visual experience. As the world's leading provider of video image processing solutions, Colorlight relies on its profound technical accumulation in the field of color calibration and is injecting new vitality into the color performance of display screens through a series of innovative technical solutions.

At TrendForce's 2025 New Display Industry Seminar, Ruan Shi'an, director of Colorlight's MLED Vision and Image Research Center, introduced the company's technological breakthroughs, application practices and strategic layout in the field of display color calibration to the audience in detail. Colorlight's color calibration technology is becoming the key to unlocking visual feasts.

Two major challenges restrict the color performance of display screens

In recent years, with the widespread application of Mini LED and Micro LED technologies, the color issue of display screens has gradually become the focus of the industry. Ruan Shi'an pointed out that the poor color performance of the display screen is mainly due to two types of problems:

First, the inherent display defects of the screen are one of the important factors affecting color performance. For example, the common brightness and color inconsistencies in MLED displays can lead to screen pitting and color cast problems; individual differences in ICs can cause color block problems; the color gamut of lamps and corresponding display standards are inconsistent, causing inaccurate display problems.

In addition, there are common thermal effect problems in the industry, which can be divided into two categories. One is that RGB lights of different colors have inconsistent light attenuation as the temperature changes, resulting in inconsistent color temperatures of the screen in cold screen and hot screen states. The second is that the heat source and heat dissipation are uneven, which will cause regional reddish and bluish problems.

In addition, nonlinear photoelectric response characteristics, color display problems caused by high scanning, and ink color consistency are all caused by inherent defects in the screen. Display effect problem.

Secondly, the source of color problems in MLED displays is also the diversified market demand. Ruan Shi'an said that taking COB as an example, the current COB in the industry is mainly P1.2 and below. The smaller the dot spacing means that the audience may watch at a closer distance, and the higher the requirements for image quality. In addition, when LED displays are used in the market, different application scenarios have different image quality requirements for the displays.

Three New Breakthroughs in Color Calibration Technology

Faced with the multiple challenges of display color calibration, Colorlite has developed a series of industry-leading calibration technology solutions through technological innovation, covering scientific-grade calibration systems, production line automated calibration equipment and ink color sorting systems. Colorlight Scientific Grade Calibration System

Colorlight's scientific-grade calibration system consists of scientific-grade calibration camera CCM6000 and Calibration Pro professional calibration software, which can realize step-by-step luminance and chromaticity correction of MLED displays. The system has the following four major characteristics:

High precision: Using a 16-bit high-precision photosensitive chip and a constant temperature refrigeration system, the brightness correction accuracy can reach ±1%, and the chromaticity correction accuracy can reach ±0.003, which can meet the accurate collection of the lowest brightness of 0.01nit.

Bionic calibration: Using XYZ filters that comply with the CIE1931 standard to simulate the visual physiological characteristics of the human eye, making the corrected screen more suitable for human eyes to watch.

Rich adaptation: Thanks to powerful hardware support, Colorite's scientific-grade calibration system can perform highlight correction, low-brightness correction, and full grayscale correction on various types of screens to solve the problem of uneven screen display and make the screen display perfect.

High efficiency: With an ultra-high resolution of 61 million pixels, combined with the software's super-resolution imaging algorithm and sub-pixel positioning technology, the correction of a 4K display can be completed in 8 minutes. Production line automated calibration equipment Mica310

In order to solve the problems related to the calibration effect and position of MLED modules and improve the calibration efficiency, Colorite developed the Mica310 production line automatic calibration equipment. Carlite said that this equipment introduces professional correction technology into the production workshop, using intelligent equipment and big data to achieve high-efficiency and fully automatic correction of MLED modules.

It is reported that Mica310 has the characteristics of high acquisition accuracy, good correction effect, good compatibility, and fast correction efficiency. Specifically, this correction system has a built-in scientific-grade correction camera, which can achieve a brightness correction accuracy of 1% and a chroma correction accuracy of ±0.003. At the same time, combined with the software's dynamic target color gamut and gradient fusion model, it can realize arbitrary splicing on site after single module correction, which greatly improves the convenience of on-site installation and maintenance.

Currently, the Mica310 production line automated calibration system can calibrate 120 modules per hour, which is equivalent to calibrating 140 square meters of screens per day. At the same time, this system is also adapted to an intelligent matching algorithm, which can realize independent switching of different types of screen calibration such as COB, SMD, GOB, and real pixels and virtual pixels.

In addition, Mica310 can realize full-process management from source to end, from production to site. Screens calibrated by the Mica310 system can automatically match the light panel and calibration data no matter it is installed in any corner of the world, thereby achieving intelligent maintenance of calibration data. Mica310B ink color sorting system

To address the problem of color consistency under black screen conditions, Colorite developed the Mica310B ink color sorting system. The system is based on machine vision and artificial intelligence algorithms and can effectively solve the problems of traditional manual sorting such as low accuracy, low efficiency, and unstable effects. It has the characteristics of multi-angle detection, automatic classification, and high sorting efficiency.

Specifically, the Mica310B ink color sorting system can sort the ink colors of different types of products such as COB and SMD. It can also sort the ink colors of PCBs and control incoming materials.

The system also has built-in cameras with multiple viewing angles of 45 degrees, 90 degrees and 135 degrees, simulating the state of people viewing the screen in a space environment, so that the consistency of the ink color after sorting meets the actual needs of on-site use. At the same time, this system also uses multi-dimensional data for in-depth training and matches a classification model that is highly suitable for human vision, thereby realizing automatic learning of product thresholds of different ink colors and automatic classification of products.

Currently, the maximum production capacity that this ink color sorting system can achieve can reach 220 pieces per hour, which is equivalent to sorting 270 square meters of screens in one day.
