According to Korean media ETnews on May 6, Huawei plans to apply Tandem (tandem) OLED technology to Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS. The products are expected to be released in the second half of this year. The display panel of the new machine will be supplied by BOE.
It is reported that Tandem OLED stacks multiple organic light-emitting layers together to provide better durability, high brightness and long life by distributing the device load to multiple layers.
Some commentators believe that Chinese companies initially applied series technology in smartphones in order to overcome technical shortcomings such as brightness and lifespan. At present, some analysts point out that relevant companies are using domestic smartphones equipped with this technology as test platforms to achieve technological upgrades in turn.
A display industry expert said: "China's representative smartphone manufacturer Huawei and the representative display manufacturer BOE have joined forces to dominate the application of TandemOLED in smartphones. They are using the local market as a test bed to continuously hone their technical strength."
Tandem OLED technology was first applied to automotive displays by LG Display in 2019. Since then, the technology has expanded to the IT OLED field and will be applied to iPad Pro in 2024. Currently, the Korean display industry focuses on the application of this technology in the automotive and IT markets.
In addition, Apple is also considering applying an "improved" Tandem OLED technology to its smartphones in the long term. Unlike the IT product group, the differentiation focus is on keeping red and green as single layers, while only blue is stacked as two layers.
